History
Formed in 1806 from Monroe County, Montgomery County and Tazewell County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Giles County was created in 1806 from Monroe, Montgomery, and Tazewell counties. It was named after William Branch Giles. The county underwent numerous boundary adjustments over subsequent decades, losing territory to the creation of Logan, Mercer, Craig, and Bland counties, and gaining territory from surrounding counties multiple times.
