History
Founded in 1741
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Northampton was created from Bertie County by 31 December 1741, but its creation was repealed by the Crown in 1754. It was re-created by the legislature in 1756 and subsequently lost territory to the creation of Hertford County in 1760 and 1765, and to Bute County in 1767.
