History
Formed in 1827 from Jefferson County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Madison County was created by Florida Territory from Jefferson County on December 26, 1827. Over the following decades, the county's boundaries changed through multiple exchanges with Jefferson County and the loss of territory to the creation of Lafayette and Taylor counties in 1856.
