History

Formed in 1845 from Alachua County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Levy County was created from Alachua County on March 10, 1845, and named after David Levy Yulee. The county gained territory from Marion County in 1877 and from Dixie County in 1925 when boundary lines shifted to river channels. Levy exchanged land with Alachua County in 1911 and gained a small area from Alachua in 1913.
