History

Founded in 1858

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Suwannee County was created from Columbia County in February 1859. The county experienced multiple boundary adjustments with Columbia County over the following decades, including losing territory in December 1859, gaining a small area in 1863 to include the town of Wellborn, and exchanging land in 1889.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
