History
Formed in 1827 from Leon County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Jefferson County experienced numerous boundary changes with its neighboring counties during its early years, losing and gaining territory to and from Leon County repeatedly between 1827 and 1881. The county also exchanged territory with Madison County throughout the nineteenth century, with a final exchange occurring in May 1923.
