History
Formed in 1823 from Jackson County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Gadsden County was created by the Florida Territory from Jackson County on June 24, 1823, and named after James Gadsden. Over its history, the county has exchanged land with neighboring Franklin and Liberty counties multiple times and gained territory from Leon County in 1933 when the boundary shifted to the middle of the Ochlockonee River.
