History
Formed in 1887 from Hernando County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Citrus County was created from Hernando County on June 2, 1887. In 1911, Citrus gained a non-county area along the Withlacoochee River when the boundary with Levy County shifted from the middle of the river to the north bank. In 1994, Citrus lost a small area to Levy County when the boundary shifted again, from the north bank to the thread of the Withlacoochee River.
