History
Formed in 1834 from Alachua County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Hillsborough County was created on January 25, 1834, from Alachua County and former Indian lands. Over the following decades, the county lost land to the creation of several new counties: Hernando in 1843, Marion and the original St. Lucie (now Brevard) in 1844, Manatee in 1855, Polk in 1861, Pinellas in 1911, and small areas to other counties at various dates.
