History
Formed in 1852 from Klamath County and Shasta County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Siskiyou County was created on March 22, 1852, from Klamath (extinct) and Shasta. The county was named after the Siskiyou Trail. Over the following decades, Siskiyou's boundaries shifted as it lost land to the creation of Del Norte (1857) and Modoc (1874), exchanged areas with Del Norte (1873, 1887), and gained part of Klamath when that county was eliminated (1874).
