History

Founded in 1850

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Calaveras County was created from non-county area on February 18, 1850. The county lost territory to the creation of Amador County in 1854, Fresno County in 1856, Mono County in 1861, and Alpine County in 1864.
