History
Formed in 1861 from Napa County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Lake County was created from Napa County on May 20, 1861, and named after Clear Lake. The county's boundaries changed several times in the 19th and early 20th centuries through gains and losses to neighboring counties including Mendocino, Colusa, and Yolo.
