History
Founded in 1852
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Jackson County was created by Oregon Territory on January 12, 1852, from Non-County Area 4. The county lost area through the creation of several new counties: Coos in 1853, Wasco in 1854, Curry in 1855, Josephine in 1856, and Lake in 1874. When Oregon became a state on February 14, 1859, Jackson became an Oregon county as Oregon Territory was eliminated. Jackson exchanged territory with Douglas County on February 17, 1915.
