History

Formed in 1850 from Yola County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Yolo County was originally named Yola in the act that created it from non-county area in 1850; the current spelling came into use by April 1850. The county underwent several boundary changes over its first decades, losing territory to Colusa County in 1851 and 1856, gaining from Solano County in 1857, and losing to Lake County in 1868 and Sacramento County in 1870.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
