History
Formed in 1854 from Tuolumne County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Stanislaus County was created from Tuolumne County on April 5, 1854. In 1860, Stanislaus gained territory from San Joaquin County. An 1866 legislative act authorized a re-survey of the Stanislaus-Merced line that would have resulted in loss of territory to Merced County, but the loss did not take effect.
