History

Formed in 1857 from Klamath County and Siskiyou County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Del Norte County was created on March 2, 1857, from the extinct Klamath County and a small area of Siskiyou County. The county's name refers to the north, and its boundaries were adjusted through exchanges with Siskiyou County in 1873 and 1887, and with Humboldt County in 1901.
