History

Founded in 1850

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Yuba County was created from non-county area in 1850. Over the next two decades, it lost territory to the creation of Nevada, Placer, and Sierra counties, and exchanged land with neighboring counties including Butte, Sutter, and Plumas.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
