History
Formed in 1804 from Lycoming County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Potter County was created from Lycoming County on March 26, 1804, but was not fully organized and remained attached to Lycoming. In 1826, Potter was detached from Lycoming and attached to McKean County, then fully organized and detached from McKean in 1835. In 1860, Potter County lost land to the creation of Cameron County.
