Indiana County was created on March 30, 1803, from Lycoming and Westmoreland counties, but was not fully organized and remained attached to Westmoreland. Jefferson was attached to Indiana in 1806, and Indiana became fully organized and detached from Westmoreland later that same year. Jefferson was detached from Indiana in 1830, and Indiana gained territory from Cambria and Clearfield in 1855.
