History
Founded in 1750
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Anson County was created from Bladen on 17 March 1749/1750, though its western boundary remained indefinite. In 1754, the Crown repealed the creation, but the legislature re-created the county in 1756 under new Crown instructions. Over the following decades, Anson County lost territory to the creation of Rowan, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Richmond, and Union counties, as well as to Bladen County.
