History
Founded in 1672
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Currituck Precinct was created around 1684 from Carteret Precinct in Albemarle. In 1739, it became Currituck County by legislative act. Over time, the county lost land to Hyde County, Dare County, and gained a small area from Dare in 1873.
