History

Formed in 1787 from Bladen County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Robeson County was created from Bladen County on January 6, 1787, and named after Thomas Robeson. The county gained and lost territory to neighboring counties several times: gaining from Bladen in 1788, losing to Cumberland in 1792, and losing to the creation of Hoke County in 1911.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
