An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Berkeley Precinct was created around 1671 in the now-extinct Albemarle, and was renamed Perquimans Precinct around 1684. Perquimans Precinct became Perquimans County by legislative act on 6 March 1738/1739. The county lost territory to the creation of Tyrrell Precinct in 1729 and to Gates in 1779.
