History
Formed in 1792 from Dobbs County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Originally called Glasgow, the county was created from Dobbs County in 1792. Glasgow was renamed Greene in 1799 and gained territory from Craven County in 1801, but lost land to Wayne County in 1794 and to the creation of Wilson County in 1855.
