History
Formed in 1754 from Bladen County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Cumberland County was created from Bladen County in 1754 and named after Prince William, Duke of Cumberland. The county was temporarily eliminated in 1784 when its territory was divided to create Fayette and Moore counties, but was re-created later that year.
