History

Formed in 1779 from Craven County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Jones County was created from Craven County on February 12, 1779. Later that year, Jones gained territory from Carteret County, and in 1788 it gained additional territory from Carteret and Dobbs counties.
