History

Formed in 1836 from Brown County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Calumet County was established by Wisconsin Territory from Brown County in 1836, initially not fully organized and attached to Brown for judicial purposes. The county went through multiple reorganizations between 1840 and 1842, alternating between independent organization and reattachment to Brown County for various purposes. In 1844, Calumet was detached from Brown County and attached to Fond du Lac County for judicial purposes, losing territory to both Fond du Lac and Winnebago counties. Calumet became a county in the state of Wisconsin in 1848, and was fully organized and detached from Fond du Lac County in 1850.
