History

Formed in 1875 from Marathon County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Lincoln County was created from Marathon County in 1875, initially attached to Marathon for judicial purposes, then fully organized in May 1875. Over the following years, portions of Lincoln were lost to the creation of new counties: Taylor in 1875, Price in 1879, Ashland in 1883, Langlade in 1885, and Oneida in 1887. The county was named after Abraham Lincoln.
