History

Formed in 1836 from Brown County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Manitowoc County was created by Wisconsin Territory from Brown County on December 7, 1836, but was not fully organized and remained attached to Brown for judicial purposes. The county became fully organized and independent on April 11, 1848, and was established as a Wisconsin county on May 29, 1848.
