History

Formed in 1859 from Polk County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Originally named Dallas, the county was created from Polk County on March 19, 1859, though it remained attached to Polk County for governmental purposes. Over the following decade, the county was temporarily attached to Dunn and Chippewa counties and exchanged territory with Polk, Chippewa, and Burnett counties. On March 4, 1869, Dallas County was renamed Barron, after Henry D. Barron. The county was fully organized and detached from Dunn County in 1874.
