History

Formed in 1836 from Milwaukee County, Rock County and Walworth County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Racine County was created by Wisconsin Territory from Milwaukee, with Rock and Walworth temporarily attached for judicial purposes. Walworth was fully organized and detached on January 1, 1839, and Rock was fully organized and detached on February 13, 1839. When Wisconsin became a state on May 29, 1848, Racine became a county in the state. On January 30, 1850, Racine lost territory to the creation of Kenosha County.
