History
Formed in 1854 from Chippewa County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Dunn County was created from Chippewa County on February 3, 1854, and was named after Charles Dunn. The county was initially not fully organized and attached to Chippewa County for judicial purposes, but became fully organized and detached from Chippewa on January 1, 1857. Dunn County lost territory to the creation of Pepin County on March 4, 1858, and gained and later lost territory related to what was then called Dallas County (now Barron County) between 1860 and 1874.
