An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Allegany County was created from Genesee County on April 7, 1806. In 1808, the county gained territory from Steuben County but lost land to the creation of Cattaraugus and Niagara counties. Over the following decades, Allegany County lost additional territory to Wyoming, Livingston, and Cattaraugus counties.
