History

Formed in 1791 from Montgomery County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Tioga County was formed in 1791 from Montgomery County. Over the following decades, it lost territory to the creation of Onondaga, Chenango, Broome, Tompkins, and Chemung counties, though it gained some land back from Broome County in 1822.
