History

Formed in 1799 from Onondaga County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Cayuga County was created from Onondaga County on March 8, 1799. Over the following decades, the county exchanged and lost land to neighboring counties: Ontario and Steuben in 1801 and 1804, Seneca in 1804, and Tompkins in 1817, with minor exchanges with Onondaga in 1828.
