History

Formed in 1791 from Montgomery County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Otsego County was created from Montgomery County on February 16, 1791. Its boundaries changed multiple times: Schoharie County was created from Otsego in 1795, Delaware County in 1797, Herkimer County took land in 1816, and Delaware took more land in 1817. In 1822, Otsego gained territory back from Delaware County.
