History

Formed in 1808 from Allegany County, Genesee County and Niagara County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Cattaraugus County was created from Allegany and Genesee counties on March 11, 1808, but was not fully organized and was attached to Niagara for administrative and judicial purposes. The eastern half was later attached to Allegany in 1814, and the county became fully organized and independent in 1817.
