History
Founded in 1683
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Westchester was created from Yorkshire in 1683. It gained territory from Fairfield, Connecticut in 1683 when the provincial boundary was adjusted, and gained Hart Island, City Island, Manursing Island, and other small islands in Long Island Sound in 1768. The county lost territory to New York in 1874 and 1895, and a small area to Bronx in 1917.
