History
Founded in 1683
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Ulster County was created in 1683 from non-county area in New York and was named after Ulster. In 1708, Dutchess County was detached from Ulster after being attached for administrative purposes, and over the following century Ulster lost territory to the creation of Delaware, Greene, and Sullivan Counties.
