History

Formed in 1843 from Catahoula Parish, Madison Parish and Ouachita Parish

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Franklin Parish was created in 1843 from Catahoula, Madison, and Ouachita parishes. It lost territory to Ouachita Parish in 1848 and to the creation of Richland Parish in 1868. In 1870, Franklin gained land from Tensas Parish, and in 1878 gained additional territory from Catahoula Parish.
