History

Formed in 1828 from Natchitoches Parish and Ouachita Parish

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Claiborne Parish was created from Natchitoches and Ouachita parishes in 1828. Over the following decades, it lost territory to the creation of multiple parishes: Bossier in 1843, Jackson in 1845 and 1846, Bienville in 1848, Webster in 1871, and Lincoln in 1873. It also exchanged territory with Ouachita in 1841 and lost land to Union Parish in 1867.
