History

Formed in 1822 from Lafourche Interior Parish and Lafourche Parish

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Terrebonne Parish was created from Lafourche Interior on March 22, 1822. In 1850, the parish lost territory to Lafourche Interior, which is now known as Lafourche Parish. In 1954, Terrebonne's boundary was extended three marine leagues into the Gulf of Mexico to be coextensive with the gulfward boundary of the State of Louisiana.
