History
Formed in 1838 from Catahoula Parish and Ouachita Parish
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Caldwell Parish was created on March 6, 1838, from Catahoula and Ouachita parishes. In 1904, the Louisiana legislature authorized Caldwell Parish to annex territory from Catahoula Parish, contingent on voter approval in the November 1904 election, but the proposed expansion did not take place.
