History
Founded in 1861
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
El Paso was created by the Colorado Territory in 1861 and is named after Ute Pass. The county lost land to the creation of Fremont County in 1866 and to Teller County in 1899, but gained territory from the Cheyenne Indian Reserve in 1870.
