History
Formed in 1784 from Monongalia County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Harrison County was created by Virginia from Monongalia County on July 20, 1784. Over the following decades, parts of the county were lost to the creation of Randolph, Wood, Lewis, Marion, Ritchie, and Barbour counties, while it gained territory from Monongalia, Randolph, and Ohio counties. On June 20, 1863, Harrison County separated from Virginia and became a county in the state of West Virginia.
