History
Formed in 1872 from Stevens County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Whitman County was created by Washington Territory from Stevens County in 1872. The county exchanged territory with Stevens County in 1875, and lost land in 1883 with the creation of Adams and Franklin counties. When Washington was admitted to the Union in 1889, Whitman County continued as a county of the new state.
