History
Formed in 1854 from Jefferson County, Clalam County and Clalm County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Clallam County was created by Washington Territory from Jefferson County, though the county name was variously spelled as Clalam or Clalm. The county exchanged territory with Jefferson County in 1858 and temporarily lost land to the creation of Quillehuyte County in 1868, regaining it when Quillehuyte was repealed in 1869. When Washington was admitted to the Union on November 11, 1889, Clallam continued as a Washington county.
