History

Formed in 1861 from Island County and King County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Snohomish County was created on January 14, 1861, by Washington Territory from Island and King counties. Named after the Snohomish tribe, the county continued when Washington became a state in 1889.
