History
Formed in 1854 from Skamania County and Whatcom County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Walla Walla County was created by Washington Territory on April 25, 1854, from Skamania and Whatcom counties, and initially included parts of present Idaho and Montana. Boundary disputes with Whatcom County were settled in 1858, and the county lost territory to the creation of Spokane County in 1858 and Stevens County in 1863. When Washington became a state in 1889, Walla Walla County continued as an established county.
