An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Columbia County was created in 1875 from Walla Walla County by Washington Territory. It lost territory to Walla Walla County in 1879 and to the creation of Garfield County in 1881. When Washington became a state in 1889, Columbia County continued as a Washington county.
